Lyme Disease Experts against Richard Blumenthal

Connecticut's activist attorney general Richard Blumenthal is running into increasing criticism for legal activities he has been taking on behalf of advocates who that are favoring aggressive long-term use of antibiotics against persistent Lyme disease.

Richard Blumenthal has deployed a clear threat of antitrust action against the Infectious Diseases Society of America over this supposed infringement of patients' rights.

It has been projected that the treatment guidelines stand, many health insurers will go on denying any kind of coverage for this antibiotic therapy as needless or dangerous.

Centers for Disease Control, as well as several other professional groups in the region have endorsed Lyme treatment guidelines which discourage such therapy.

The Hartford Courant covered the story last month (reprinted at LymeNet); Cliff Hutchinson also comments on the controversy.
