Pigs in china hit by a virus disease

A virus has killed more than 100,000 pigs in China but it has helped boost the price of pork and raised direct concerns in the world community that the disease could spread.

Because of the tight domestic market, exports fell to 62,000 metric tons in the first half of the year. Pork processors in China have not acknowledged that an outbreak of blue ear disease among pigs was seriously affecting pork stocks.

Beijing has promised free vaccinations for the disease, also known as porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, and other aid to farmers to raise pork output.
