Essential fatty acids in cod liver oil - Omega 3 source

Essential fatty acids are vital in the formation of cell walls, so are needed whenever the body is building or restoring tissues. There are two types of essential fatty acids , the omega-3 fatty acids and the omega-6 fatty acids.

Cod liver oil is extracted from the livers of cod. Its claim to health-giving properties as it is the matter of fact that cod liver oil is rich in a type of essential fatty acid called omega-3.

The oily varieties of fish are particularly rich in omega-3, such as sardines, herring, mackerel, trout and salmon. Extra omega-3 EFAs may help to treat heart disease, arthritis and psoriasis.
